My 2 most awaited releases for year's end just fell on my lap at the same time and found their way into one single awesome post. Wooooooooooooooooo!!!!
All studio albums & Parasiempre (1996, Live). 128 bitrate, though. Keep checking as I will be posting these on 320 bitrate ASAP.
"If you’re looking for comparisons, you can sonically imagine David Bowie’s songwriting in the vane of hard rock. What you’d expect Dave Grohl’s songwriting to be after a few drinks, that’s what 1956 parallels, passion meets creativity. In both visual images drawn here, you would see that there is a connection between the music and the listeners. This is no different. “We look to connect with and challenge listeners, and themselves,” says the band. But that’s all fine and dandy when you’re listening to a CD recording that gets tweaked more than a supermodel’s nipples. The truest test of musicianship is live. As the band puts it, “It’s all about the chemistry between us, each other, and our instruments. All our parts are crucial to the collective.” After following 1956 from early on in their career, I recall the band playing at the now defunct Globe East. The music gelled so well that the listener is made to wonder where and how certain sounds are even made with a three-piece band. Regardless the source, the music prevailed and the lack of pretentiousness remained a welcome trait not often seen in music today.
Rock was young in the year 1956. Rock was raw, unpretentious, vital, brave and boundless back then. 1956 the band is very much the same. After releasing the oft-troubled sophomore effort last year on Coptercrash Records, 1956 prevailed with TONIGHT WE KISS. Historically, the band followed one great recording with another (referencing their debut, THE GREAT SLEEP, also on Coptercrash Records). Historically, 1956 can be said to be a great year, yet a fading memory. 1956 the band can be said to be getting brighter, with sounds as resilient as the year itself."
At some point in 1985-86, David Lee Roth had 2 putrid epiphanies: first, he convinced himself that he was the main source of talent behind the mega-success of Van Halen and that he would set out to prove it by going solo; and second, he read somewhere that a large majority of new Latino immigrants were in the 18-27 age range and he figured they'd be hungry for some Gringo-accented, Spanish-butchering rock.
"Biblical Proof of UFOs exudes that same calibre of catchy desert-rock pop-sensibility as Queens of the Stone Age, Masters of Reality and Fatso Jetson. On the surface it's all hooks and instantly memorable singalong lyrics and underneath it bleeds uniqueness and talent. Masterfully crafted songs and an immediately visceral connection with the listener put Interstellar Messages up on that same elusive pedestal as other recent masterworks such as Queens of the Stone Age's Songs for the Deaf."
"One day Roachie Peru and Bobby Gone smashed out some hits. It was immediately determined that SST Sonic Boom tone-emulator Hag Slacks should be recruited to round out the sound. After crafting some more Top-10 banjo singles, "Smash Hits", Cyclone 60's debut album, was released to a resounding lack of response... Due to biological themes, Hag Slacks went family style, and fittingly in step with the end of the Concorde's trans-Atlantic super-sonic commercial service, Cyclone 60 was without sonic boom and a swell chum...
"NO! There are no easy answers to sum up the problems which we face..." Lately, I've been on a serious kick of short songs. Don't know why. Maybe I'm subconsciously trying to bump my last.fm totals. Anyway, this is a classic.

Space Rock, others call it 'psychedelic post punk'. With this release, Codeseven broke the tight boundaries created by their sub-par previous output.
"On their third disc, The Coastaline Fire, the Dunnville, Ontario, quartet Chore transcend the emo-core formula with terrific songs. Waves of guitar, soaring vocals, angst-filled lyrics, and crashing tempos inform, but don't limit, tracks like "The Hitchhiker" and "Electrojet." Expert at building and releasing tension, Chore easily slip from wide-open verses into densely packed choruses on tunes like "Dog in the Manger," while they prove on "Burr" and "American Machinist" that they can rock as hard as the next Jesus Lizard. General dissatisfaction hangs over the lyrics while the band plants hooks you don't even know are there until you find yourself singing along to "I'm past the point of no return" (from "By God"). "Virginia Creeper" closes the album with a suitably grandiose strings and electric guitar finale that leaves the listener drained but satisfied."
L.G. Petrov spent time in-between Entombed stints with this Swedish studio group. If early 90's "drum machine" death metal is your thing, then this is gonna hit the proverbial spot.
Do yourselves a favor and visit the Captain at Sonic Daydream and download some of "The Hard Stuff" podcasts. I've always been amazed at the stuff the Captain puts in these as some of these bands I never even heard of, but they rock long & hard. Wooooooooo!
Complete your collection.
Whiskey drenched and nicotine stained alterna-blues from some of Seattle's finest. IMHO, their best album.
Los Señores Fabulosos. An even mix of good ol' teen angst, salsa, dub, rock, soul, melancholy, reggae, tango and PARTY!!!!!! on every album. I present to you 2 masterpieces:
Pa'l que no lo tenga. Hay par de copias rondando por ahi con las canciones corta's por la mitad, whatever. Esta versión fue arreglada por su servidor. Wooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
If you've heard these guys before, you know what to expect. Stoner-tinged hard rock with great harmonies. The singer kinda reminds me of Karl Middleton. One of my favorite Norwegian bands.
Freshly squeezed PTW. First 2-3 songs sound like a continuation of "Versions", which isn't a bad thing at all.

Not much to say besides "if you don't have it, get it".
