BIBLICAL PROOF OF UFOS - INTERSTELLAR MESSAGES (2004)

"Biblical Proof of UFOs exudes that same calibre of catchy desert-rock pop-sensibility as Queens of the Stone Age, Masters of Reality and Fatso Jetson. On the surface it's all hooks and instantly memorable singalong lyrics and underneath it bleeds uniqueness and talent. Masterfully crafted songs and an immediately visceral connection with the listener put Interstellar Messages up on that same elusive pedestal as other recent masterworks such as Queens of the Stone Age's Songs for the Deaf."

CYCLONE 60 - INSTANT CLASSIC (2009)

"One day Roachie Peru and Bobby Gone smashed out some hits. It was immediately determined that SST Sonic Boom tone-emulator Hag Slacks should be recruited to round out the sound. After crafting some more Top-10 banjo singles, "Smash Hits", Cyclone 60's debut album, was released to a resounding lack of response... Due to biological themes, Hag Slacks went family style, and fittingly in step with the end of the Concorde's trans-Atlantic super-sonic commercial service, Cyclone 60 was without sonic boom and a swell chum...

Enter Cezar Fiberglass... Rocket launch/nuclear fusion reactor sound-specialist and all around Sigg Fugg, Cezar Fiberglass steps in with a gargantuan sound and the lovely Angeline in tow... Hag Slacks gives two thumbs up. Roachie breaks with the Dolly Llama and has a short stint as a gold prospector named Ricky Klondike. After losing his pickaxe and team of dogs, he shortens his name to "They Call Him Ricky" and wonders why his birth name was not Wadsworth Ricky Waldorf-Astoria Gasatron. Meanwhile Bobby Gone becomes a certified Sherpa and scales Devil's Tower just so he could relieve himself off the top.

With all pieces in place, the final touches are placed on a new collection of platinum singles called “Instant Classic”. Dudes and cool people all around the world rejoice. Sonic pleasure fills the airwaves and ejaculatory gestures of good will register on Richter scales in Japan. Someone sails a paper bird into the wind and it flies all the way to Jupiter where, as it descends, it defecates onto the head of a Martian-like space creature. Tongs are surgically removed from an anus at a local hospital, and suddenly, peace settles upon the world…

SUCKING THE 70'S

Everybody and their moms has posted these before. So, what's different about my post, you ask? I've properly fixed all tags, added the highest res available covers and formatted all 66 tracks so you can just drop them on iTunes without worrying about fucked up info. Tracklists below. Comments would be nice.

MOTHERTRUCKER - THE LAST RIDE OF DR. SANCHEZ (2005)

Review stolen off The Sleeping Shaman; post 100% ripped off The Sludge Swamp (awesome blog!). Track #1 will melt your fucking tits (give it 'til about 1:45).

"When I first heard about this band, the name conjured up images of some long haired, bearded, redneck southern rock band, OK I may have hit on a stereotype here but this really couldn't be further from the truth. This four piece, to my amazement, come from Birmingham (in the Midlands and not Alabama!!!) and execute some crushingly heavy and at times 'dreamy' groove laden stoner rock.

Before I go any further, I should point out that Mother Trucker are an instrumental band with not a single solitary vocal line in sight, but this doesn't detract in any way from the 6 tracks on show here, so please read on! 'The Last Ride of Dr. Sanchez' begins with the monstrous opening riff from the track 'Truckers Of Steel' and what hits you instantly is the huge influence Kyuss must have had on them with it's chunky riffs and mammoth drums. The pace soon changes though as the track then breaks down into a more tranquil & ambient affair before building back up to the grand finale.

The CD continues in similar vein with titles like 'Waxing The Shaft', 'Boss Eye' & 'Truckasaurus Rex' which all embrace their huge Kyuss/Sabbath-esque riffs and punishing drums that pound away in the background like a prize bull on heat and although you maybe thinking, this band is just another Kyuss clone minus vocals, this certainly isn't the case! As each track progresses, Mother Trucker show a maturity in their song writing, although for the most, this release is crushingly heavy, it also delivers a few twists and turns along the way, as one minute your head is being crushed by their sheer power & energy, the next it's drifting away into a more harmonious place with it's seamless tempo and atmospheric changes reminding me a lot of supergroup 'Red Sparowes'."

THE KISS OF DEATH - S/T (2003)

Haven't heard this yet but it's ex-Turmoil members including singer Jon Gula. Why am I posting it if I haven't heard if it's any good? Well, consider it my way of requesting some help finding a good sounding copy of Turmoil's "From Bleeding Hands" original release, not the re-mixed shit. That'd be fucking awesome!

ORQUESTA DEL DESIERTO - S/T (2002)

Alfredo Hernandez of Kyuss/QOTSA fame joins Mario Lali for an inspired set. Excellent album, but it is not the meaty slab of stoner rock you'd expect from a band with such a name and lineup. This is a beautiful acoustic affair. Thanks to Big Jack at G.O.M.E. for the link.

This also raises the question, how many classic albums can one drummer play on? Consider that Hernandez, for being virtually unknown to the masses, has now played on Kyuss' "Welcome to Sky Valley" & "And the Circus Leaves Town", QOTSA's self-titled first release, Ché's "Sounds of Liberation", this album, among others. The next logical step is for him to join Led Zeppelin on drums for their upcoming world tour or replace Ginger Baker for a Cream reunion.

CROWBAR - LIVE + 1 (1994)

I heard "Numb Sensitive" somewhere recently and knew I had to get this again. Featuring current & former members of Down, this is my favorite Crowbar lineup and one of my favorite live albums.
